Protests, black flags on Nov 1st

Hyderabad: The 56th Andhra Pradesh Formation Day on Tuesday was marred by protests and black flag demonstrations in Telangana with almost all ministers from the region staying away from the celebrations. Only two ministers from the city, D Nagender and Mukhesh Goud, participated in the event at NTR Stadium.

While T activists hoisted black flags on government and private buildings in Telangana districts in response to the call given by the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee to observe November 1 as “Betrayal Day,” tension prevailed in Warangal and for some time at the Osmania University in Hyderabad.

The main official function at NTR Stadium in Hyderabad was held amid unprecedented security. Apprehending trouble from T activists, heavy police bandobust was organized in and around the stadium. It was just police, officials, students and media. People were allowed inside the stadium only after thorough screening.

The Chief Minister unfurled the national flag and gave away gallantry awards to policemen. He also assured that his government would develop and provide equal opportunities to all regions and sections of the people.

In Warangal, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) legislator Vinay Bhaskar walked on to the dais, disrupted the celebrations, where the district collector was present, along with his supporters by tearing down the banner on the dais and uprooting the mike.

According to eyewitnesses, the legislator fell unconscious as police used force to disperse the protestors. Police arrested the TRS leader and shifted him out. In Adilabad town, rebel legislator of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Jogu Ramana was arrested. [HANS India]
