Visible policing is the first step of our endeavour: Naini
Home Minister Naini Narsimha Reddy asserted that the government would leave nothing to chance in its endeavour to make the capital the safest global city. As a first step, he said visible policing was taken up with uniformed police personnel taking up patrolling on two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
Answering a query during question hour in the Assembly on Thursday, the Minister rejected the contention that chain snatching and robbery cases have increased in Hyderabad and its outskirts.
Of the 156 robbery cases and 1,585 chain snatchings reported in 2012, the recovery was 70 and 55 per cent respectively, while in 2013, recovery in 121 robberies and 1,716 chain snatchings were 73 and 49 per cent respectively.
In 2014, 60 per cent of the 86 robberies and 62 per cent of 1,187 chain snatchings were solved and properties recovered, he explained.
Opposition members D.K. Aruna (Congress), K. Laxman and Chintala Ramachandra Reddy (BJP) and Mumtaz Ahmed Khan (MIM) described the situation in Hyderabad as ‘increasingly-unsafe’.
The Home Minister said the government has allotted Rs. 70 crore for purchase of 1,000 surveillance cameras to be installed in the city and on its outskirts.
