‘Greater’ status to Warangal Corporation

The Telangana government on Wednesday accorded ‘greater’ status to the Warangal Municipal Corporation on the lines of GHMC. The government has decided to develop Warangal on par with Hyderabad with special focus on industries and education sector.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao reviewed the issue with senior officials of the municipal department at Secretariat. Mr Rao opined that Warangal deserves ‘greater’ status since it has been developing faster than any other city after Hyderabad and the recent merger of 42 surrounding gram panchayats into Warangal made the city bigger with population crossing 10 lakh.

“Considering the historical and cultural significance of Warangal, the government has decided to accord greater status to its municipal corporation,” Mr Rao said. Only Hyderabad city has the ‘greater’ status in Telangana till now.
