Global and local – the seductive argument to subjugate people and TDP’s strategy

By:Soonya

We keep hearing that TDP is driven by a ‘lofty’ ideal of Global or in this case National concerns and is given as a justification for their alliance with BJP.

If you deconstruct the argument we see the following.

1. It is the same argument like raising Teluguness as an identifying principle that was used to merge Telangana with Andhra and we know the outcome for the last 6 decades.
2. It is strikingly similar to a colonialist’s argument that they are ‘civilizing’ a barbaric people to justify their oppression of third world societies and cultures.
3. It is the same or similar principle that we hear that TDP or such parties or such interests ‘developing’ Telangana or Hyderabad! A big LIE.

When TDP proposes that they are allying with BJP, in Telangana for a ‘national’ cause, clearly it does not give any importance to the regional aspirations of identity.

The cause of Telangana was ‘mortgaged’ for national level power leverage by BJP aptly acknowledged by none less than Shri LK Advani and stoked by TDP supremo Shri CBN.

It is a case of same wine in a new bottle. TDP found that urban middle-classes fed up with the catatonic stupor that UPAII got into is being leveraged as ‘Is bar Modi Sarkar’ as if it is a solution to all problems that the country is facing.

BJP at the national level did not come with anything new, if ever it looks like the crony capitalists that it depends on are seeking their pound of flesh.

Telanganavadis and thinking classes from Telangana must understand this double-bind that BJP and TDP are playing with people of Telangana. For some reason the TJAC also seem to fall for the argument. While they proposed that the T people should not vote for TDP and YRCP they do not seem to have a view about the unholy alliance of TDP and BJP.

Shri CBN has been openly sharing in Andhra region that he and his party tried till the last to stall Telangana.

Now the clever and wily TDP wants to ride on the shoulders of BJP in Telangana. As ever Telangana politicians have to play second fiddle to Andhra politicians, which has been the bane of Telangana.

A Kishan Reddy had to after some protestations give in to a Venkaiah Naidu driven by a CB Naidu.

What does it show?

It shows that Telangana is still fraught by the same forces who opposed and manipulated T people through its ever supine politicians either from Congrass or from any other party like BJP or TDP and the danger is real and very present.

I do not hold any brief for TRS or its supremo and his style of functioning.

But TJAC should not fall for intellectually correct but historically wrong decisions that some communist parties who are basically honest but make very dishonest and ‘dumb’ decisions which go against historical relevance. Hence the list of historical ‘blunders’ that they are known for.

Pragmatism is an important factor in real-politik.

Prof Kodandaram who teaches political science should know better. So should Mallepally Laxmaiah. These are leading lights of the TJAC and I trust them for they are honest and do not kow tow to anyone. One may dislike the brashness of TRS supremo and his style of functioning, but one should not get blinded by the dislike for a style of functioning and make historical blunders.

Sangati ka phal bhogna padta hai, I did write about a story on this site elsewhere that we were asked study in a Hindi lesson during my childhood.

By associating with an anti-Telangana party like TDP BJP has sullied its image and its contribution to forming Telangana. And we cannot forget Mr Venkaiah Naidu’s antics in Rajya Sabha. His sympathy for Andhra is understandable, but he did not show even 10% for T cause in his speech and entreaties and arm-twisting in the last moment. How can we forget it? How do Kishan Reddy et al., defend it? Did V Naidu seek 10 years of tax-free or other sops for Telangana? There is an Andhra saying – mogunni kotti mogasaalakekkinatlu!

The argument that that TDP will help Modi form a government at Delhi is a specious one. Tanaku maalina dharmamu moditiki chedda beramu goes an Andhra saying.

So how should we look at BJP?

We should look it like it is a second fiddle to TDP and therefore anti-Telangana in this context.

A Kishan Reddy who had protested but gave in must be seen as a Un-Jaana Reddy or other type of Congress Reddy’s and Raos who never had a back-bone and were supine for some crumbs thrown at them in the crony capitalist order.

We must see BJP under Kishan Reddy in the same light. WE must look at ‘Chinnamma’ Sushma Swaraj in the same light. We must see Raj Nath Singh in the same light.

It is very simple, enemy’s friend is my enemy. If TDP was enemy of Telangana, anybody allies with them even if they are friends of Telangana are our enemy.

So my friends do not fall for the ‘national cause’ rubbish and BS. Modi may be a great man, but he shall be seen by the acts of commission and omission. By going with anti-T forces, we must presume that he is ant-T. PERIOD. No more discussion about what he can do for the country etc.

The same BJP and NaMo will say NaMo if T forces get enough seats for the Lok Sabha.

Think about it. Especially the educated middle-classes must think and guide others out of this confusion.

Enemy’s friend is my enemy. Even if he is my brother or brother-in-law.

So BJP in Telangana must be seen as a force that does not have its spine and kow tows to Andhra interests like Shri Venukaiah Naidu.

I respect Dattanna but if they do not muster enough courage to stand up to Andhra interests, SORRY. You folks are not on our side.

T people must simplify the cob-webs that are being woven by creepy insects under the rubric of ‘national interest’. My question is what about OUR INTERESTS?

Modi mouthing that we are children of a Telugu talli is insulting to the movement and the aspirations and the identity struggle that was waged so far.

Sir please do not insult us. We will no longer take it like we did under Andhra dispensation.

I do request Kishan Reddy, Dattanna to stand up to Andhra domination and get out of the clutches of the Andhra Babus. If you do not we will have no sympathy for you and your participating in the struggle for T.

Please do not sacrifice T spirit at the altar of ‘national cause’. Sorry we have been duped by one ‘supra’ cause or the other so far. Right now the only cause is the cause of Telangana. Everything else is negotiable.
