Eatela Promises to Make Karimnagar Drought-free in 2 Years

The district will be made drought-free within two years, finance minister Eatela Rajender assured here on Monday.

The minister, who laid the foundation stone for canal renovation work at Kothapalli in Huzurabad mandal as part of the renovation of Kakatiya Canal under Sriram Sagar Project, said drinking and irrigation water would be provided across the district including to tail-end farmers.

Kakatiya canal got damaged at several places and, after renovation, the canal will carry at least 5,500 cusecs of water as against the optimum of 8,500 cusecs. Due to breaches, it is carrying at present just 3,000 cusecs of water. By May next the canal’s renovation works will be completed.

Once the Mid Manair and Yellamapalli irrigation projects and Kaleswaram-Muktheswara lift irrigation projects were competed, irrigation facilities would increase, he said. The government is also planning to construct check dams on rivulets to harvest rain water.

Earlier, the minister laid the foundation stone for a new high school building, which is to cost `2 crore, at Kamalapur. Addressing the gathering, he said the government was striving to provide corporate-level education at government schools.
