Destiny’s kettle brims: KTR tweet sends tea-seller teen back to school

By CH Sushil Rao

A cruel twist of fate may have forced this 15-year-old boy to trade in his schoolbag for a kettle of tea but thanks to Telangana IT and Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao, tea-seller Md Sami Uddin Faizan will finally be back in school.

The minor was forced to discontinue studies and sell tea near City Centre Mall at Banjara Hills Road No 10 as his father was unable to pay the fees of the private school where he was studying.

It was only after Riyazuddin, a resident of Banjara Hills, tweeted a photograph of Sami selling tea on the road, after learning of his plight on Monday, that lady luck smiled on him. Riyazuddin said Sami, a resident of Singadi Basti, was keen on pursuing his studies. “Please help him in getting admission in a Telangana residential school,” Riyazuddin requested the minister on social media.

The minister responded immediately to the plea after Riyazuddin’s tweet was retweeted to him by this reporter. “We will get him into one,” the minister said in response. “Reach out and make sure he gets into one,” KTR said and directed his office to get the child admitted in school.

KTR’s office lost no time in following up on the minister’s directive and asked Riyazuddin to send them more details about the boy so that steps could be taken to enroll him in a residential school.
