CM KCR to Celebrate Independence Day at Golconda Fort

In a significant departure from tradition, the Telangana government has decided to celebrate Independence Day at the historic Golconda Fort in the city, not at the parade grounds as is the custom. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao instructed Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma and DGP Anurag Sharma to visit the Fort on Monday to oversee arrangements for the celebrations. The Chief Minister, sources said, wants the Independence Day celebrations, the first after the formation of the State, to reflect Telangana culture and tradition. According to the sources, Chandrasekhar Rao directed officials to prepare the tableaux in such a way as to exhibit the rich Telangana culture and history.

Golconda Fort was first built by the Kakatiyas as part of their southern defences. It was built in 945 CE-970 CE. In the 16th century, Golconda was made the capital of the Qutb Shahi kingdom.
