Book Fairs to be Organised in All Telangana Districts

Buoyed by the success of Hyderabad Book Fair 2014, its organisers have decided to organise book fairs in all the Telangana districts.

“There has been a thumping response to the recently concluded Hyderabad Book Fair with five lakh people visiting it. Books worth `5 crore were sold out during the fair, which was a record. We will conduct similar book fairs in all the districts of Telangana,” J Gowri Shankar, president of Hyderabad Book Fair Society, (HBFS) said speaking at a press conference here on Monday.

HBFS will conduct a book fair in Khammam in January and exact dates will be announced soon, he said.

Hyderabad Book Fair is being conducted annually and about 300 book publishers and sellers participated in the 28th edition of it, which concluded on Friday.

HBFS secretary K Chandra Mohan, treasurer Rajeswar Rao, were among those present at the press conference.

Lack of toilets at NTR stadium: Hyderabad Book Fair organisers complained about lack of facilities at NTR stadium.

“Lack of toilets and drinking water facility has caused severe problems to the visitors during book fair. Though we thank Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for giving NTR stadium at a subsidised rent, we also want to make it clear that lack of toilets at NTR stadium is a big problem. Many visitors, especially women have faced lot of inconvenience,” said P Rajeswar Rao, treasurer of HBFS. NTR stadium is maintained by the GHMC and it collects `75,000 per day as rent. But the stadium was allotted at half the price for the HBFS.
