Austrian Team Pitches to Clean up Hussainsagar Lake

After the Dutch and the Japanese, an Austrian team has expressed interest in helping clean up the polluted Hussainsagar lake.

The Austrian team gave a powerpoint presentation about their technologies in dealing with different kinds of water treatment and their experience in different fields of water treatment like industrial waste, cleaning of polluted lakes, converting sea water into potable water through reverse osmosis etc.,in different countries.

The Austrian team’s presentation included Vienna Danube Food Protection Project where they cleaned up the polluted Vienna Danube lake by diverting the water and converting the place into a recreational space and making the surrounding areas into a business centre and good living place with pollution-free environment.

MAUD Principal Secretary, M G Gopal and GHMC Special Officer, Somesh Kumar, listened as the Austrian team briefed them about their proposal. HMDA Metropolitan Commissioner, Shalini Mishra, HMWS&SB Managing Director M Jagadeeshwar and senior officials from Irrigation Department, GHMC, HMDA, Telangana Pollution Control Board attended the meeting. Earlier, Gopal explained the team about the study reports done by other departments on Hussainsagar lake.

Somesh Kumar explained the history and status of the lake and the government’s plan to clean it.

He requested the visiting delegates to inspect the lake and submit their proposal and suggestions for cleaning the lake.

Later, the delegates along with senior officials of various Heads of Departments called on Chief Secretary, Rajiv Sharma and inspected the Hussainsagar lake.
