A scam-free govt in 30 years KCR can pride himself about

By Oracle

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, who has been riding on the wave of a series of successes during his four-and-a-half years of governance in the newly-formed State, can pride himself about providing a scam-free government to the people Telangana.

And, what’s more, it is the first government devoid of corruption charges and allegations of scams with Hyderabad as the seat of power in the last three decades.

It may sound incredible. Yet, it is true that KCR led a scam-free and a scam-charge-free government.

The immediate past government, led by the Congress for two consecutive terms, was ridden with several scams and allegations. The YS Rajasekhara Reddy Government and the successive governments led by K Rosaiah and N Kiran Kumar Reddy between 2004 and 2014 were all mired in serious scams like Emaar Properties, Obulapuram Mines, VANPIC, the “Jalayagnam” (irrigation projects) and many others in which YS Jaganmohan Reddy and several other politicians and bureaucrats were arrested, released and are attending the courts. Rosaiah himself had to face charges in a land scam in the City.

Though the heads of governments changed, the infamous liquor scam that marred Kiran Kumar Reddy regime was and the Indiramma Housing scam that surfaced after the separation of the State are still haunting the Congress. The TDP published a book entitled “Raja of Corruption” on YSR regime.

Before the Congress came to power in the State, it was N Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam government – for 8 years, 8 months and 13 days – that found itself in neck-deep in multiple scams, including Yeleru Scam, which was probed by judicial commissions. Also, several cases were filed against Chandrababu Naidu Regime and many of them are still pending disposal in various courts and are not being taken up due to stay orders. The IMG-Bharata issue regarding the games and sports facilities and stadiums in Hyderabad, and many other scams are haunting the TDP. The Congress published a booklet before 2004 elections to the Assembly with a title “Chandrababu Zamana – Avineethi Khazana” (Chandrababu’s regime – full of corruption).

The NTR-led TDP between December 1994 and August 1995 too was not away from corruption charges. The overnight calling of global tenders for private power projects, with a view to benefitting domestic companies, raised a lot of dust, when Naidu was the Power Minister. Even the power purchase agreements were tainted with allegations of corruption.

The Congress Government between 1989-1994 was full of controversies and corruption charges. While the Marri Channa Reddy regime was caught in the crosshairs of communal violence, the subsequent Nedurumalli Janardhana Reddy Government had to step down on the charges of corruption in the allocation of 12 Breweries and Distilleries and opening up of a Pandora’s Box for 24 private engineering and medical colleges in the State. The Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy regime was rattled by the charges on private power projects – Besicorp Brooklyn Inc, Hinduja National Power Corporation Ltd and BPL.

Bringing down the curtains on the three-decade saga of corruption and scams in the combined State, with Hyderabad as seat of power, the KCR regime indeed has rendered an administration free from any allegations of corruption or scams, big or small. The Government must showcase this fact at all election campaigns and tell the people clearly that it has taken up massive projects like Mission Bhageeratha, Mission Kakatiya, Rythu Bandhu, Kaleswaram Project and nowhere has there been a single charge of corruption.
