A Painting to Celebrate Telangana

A painting which pays tribute to the people of Telangana for their sacrifices and struggle, and a book which lists tourism spots in the youngest State, was unveiled by IT Minister KT Rama Rao, at State Art Gallery here on Monday.

The painting titled ‘Telangana’, sketched by Manohar Chiluveru on 10 blocks of canvas is a tribute to 10 districts of Telangana State. The canvas has the lenght of 360 feet giving metaphorical meaning to all-round struggles by scores of Telanganites in achieving Statehood.

The book titled ‘Cultural Tourism Contribution and Heritage Value of Telangana’, written by V Varija, attempts to provide information about eco, pilgrimage, adventure, wildlife, archaeological tourism in the State.

Rao, who was chief guest of the event, said that the role played by paintings, films, songs, dance, and other art forms in Telangana struggle was admirable. Stating that many talented artists are still not recognised, the minister said that people here do not recognise their excellence unless somebody else acknowledges them.

“Telangana government will stand in support all such unrecognised artistes,” Rao said.

Principal Secretary of Tourism and Culture, B P Acharya, who was present at the event, said that there is no dearth of talent in Telangana, particularly in arts and culture. “All they require is a helping hand from government, and support to rise to international level. The government is trying to facilitate the help,” Acharya said.

“My painting is inspired by anti-war painting of Pablo Picasso, titled ‘Guernica’. I have been planning to paint it for the past one and half years. I would display it in international art fairs,” said Manohar.
