The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is planning to construct around 50 model markets in different parts of Hyderabad shortly at a cost of `25 crore.
Majority of these model markets would be constructed by demolishing the old markets which are in a dilapidated state.
There are about 30 municipal markets which are in a bad condition and people avoid visiting these markets due to the pathetic conditions, filthy surroundings and lack of parking facilities.
Concerned over the lack of adequate number of markets in the city, the Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao directed GHMC special officer Somesh Kumar to construct 150 modern markets with all the basic amenities.
The city with a swelling population of over one crore, has got just 30 markets which are in a dilapidated state. As per a survey, there is a need to provide a market for every 10,000 people.
Somesh Kumar, who visited Monda market a few days back, inspected the facilities and prepared a report, based on which works for new market places are being taken up.
The GHMC is planning to take up construction of 50 model markets in the first phase for which proposals are being processed. Each market will be constructed at a cost of `50 lakh and the designs are being prepared for the same. According to the report prepared by Somesh Kumar, each market in the city needs at least 400 sq yards space, to accommodate the traders and customers.
The model markets will be constructed in Ramanthapur, Habsiguda, Mansoorabad, Bhupeshgupta Nagar, Kranthi Nagar in Circle 2 and 3 of East Zone.
